A GSM alarm system is an alarm system that sends its warning over the mobile network – in other words, by the same route every mobile phone uses to make calls. To do this, the control panel contains a built-in cellular module with its own SIM. It forms a dedicated outbound link to the outside world that works completely independently of your home connection.
The key word is self-sufficient: the system needs no third-party infrastructure to raise the alarm. No WiFi, no router, no landline and no internet contract. An SMS goes out as well. That way you have the information in black and white, even if you couldn't hear the phone at the moment of the call.
Inside the building the system works as a wireless alarm: the individual components communicate with the control panel without wires. This makes the installation fast, clean and gentle on your home – with no chiselled walls or routed cables.
Especially in occupied homes and fully furnished rooms this is a major advantage. There is no drilling dust, no channels cut into the plaster and no visible wiring. Such an alarm system can also be fitted in rented flats or listed buildings, where intervening in the building fabric is sensitive. Worth knowing: radio and GSM are two different things. Radio connects the parts within the house to one another, while the GSM module connects the control panel to the outside world.
Burglars often act deliberately. Anyone trying to disable a system cuts the power or the internet line first. An alerting method that hangs on those two things is then useless. The GSM alarm system solves this problem at the root.

Many cheap systems alert only via an app. That sounds modern, but it depends entirely on the internet and on a third-party cloud service. If either one fails, the warning gets stuck. GSM alerting takes the direct route.

Very old alarm systems transmitted exclusively over the 2G network. This oldest mobile network is being switched off step by step by the network operators. Devices that rely on it alone may eventually be unable to send any alert – a silent, dangerous risk.

Current mobile networks instead of outdated 2G
Yes. A GSM alarm system needs neither WiFi nor a router or an internet connection. It alerts over the mobile network – the very same path every mobile phone uses to make calls and send text messages. The built-in cellular module calls the contacts you have stored directly. So even if your internet connection is down or doesn't exist at all, the alerting stays fully operational.
The control panel has its own power reserve and keeps working if the mains power fails. Because the mobile network also operates independently of your home's electrical system, the entire alerting chain stays active. That is a deliberate security advantage: if the power supply is cut on purpose to disable a system, the GSM alerting carries on regardless and notifies your contacts.
The alarm control panel uses its own cellular module with a SIM for its outbound link – separate from your private mobile phone contract. GSM refers to the path to the outside world: over the mobile network the control panel sends the alert to you as a call and an SMS. Radio connects within the house, GSM connects to the outside world.
Yes. You store several phone numbers, for example your own, family members or neighbours. In the event of an alarm the control panel calls these contacts one after another until someone is reached, and additionally sends an SMS. That way no one is left uninformed if one person doesn't hear the phone or can't be reached at that moment.
